My youngest (Matías) just turned 4 two days ago, and we celebrated his bday... Go n figure... At McDonald’s!!!!!!!!!! Imperialism all over!!!!!!!!!! But he had great fun. He s such an optimist(ic) that at the end of the party I asked him: “how did you like it?” And we were talking about the party and he said: “it was great cos all of my friends were there...”
However, this was in fact NOT true, since lots of his class mates could not make it... But after making such a statement he smiled and said “well, Florencia and Maggie couldn’t make it... But we knew they were sick” [meaning they did have a good excuse not to be there] ... “and Brandon... Well he said he would be there, but probably he could not make it at the last minute” [so another excused friend].
So his process of thinking and feeling was the typical optimistic he is: first, say he was very happy and that everybody was there, and even if this wasn’t true, then list the reasons why his friends could/should be excused... He s also reading and writing by now, not as fluent as Javier was at 4 but very advanced as well, and he s SUCH a FAN of cars, and is able to recognize cars by their ROOFS!!!!!!! At this age they all see it from “below” so to speak...
My eldest, Javier, (who s still five, turning six on the first day of 2007) just finished school yesterday and we went by to pick up his report-card. There s a place where the teacher writes comments or writes about what the student is good at or is outstanding at. She wrote for Javier: “se destaca en todas las áreas” (outstanding in all curriculum areas). The English teacher (he goes to a public tri lingual school part of a Pilot Project held by the City Govt, 2 blocks away from home) said that he “should learn a language every 3 to 4 years cos he has the gift for languages... He can become a polyglot”! So we re proud on this part of the story as well...
Do I sound like a TYPICAL horrible boring mom!!!!!!? You don’t have to be Iddische Born to be an Iddische Mom!!!!!!!!!!!! (there s a saying that goes like this in Buenos Aires, don’t know if it s international...)
